Whenever, and whether prior or subsequent to September first, nineteen hundred sixty-seven, a marriage has been dissolved by divorce, either party may marry again.

A person who remarries in another state, contrary to the provisions in Domestic Relations Law § 8, against the remarriage of a person divorced for adultery in New York is lawfully married, since this provision has no effect outside of this state.
